Do You Have Questions About the New Over-The-Counter Legislation?

In October 2021, the FDA formally proposed a rule to establish the new OTC hearing aids category. Finalized in August 2022, the final rule allows hearing aids within this category to be sold directly to consumers in stores or online without a medical exam or a fitting by an audiologist. Hearing aids for more severe hearing loss or for users younger than age 18 remain prescription devices.

At The Hearing Place, we want to make the best-fit hearing experience as easy as possible for our patients. That’s why we have gone through and written out which of our hearing devices are over-the-counter and which are prescription hearing aids.

Check out the table below to answer any questions you might have and see what category your hearing devices fall in. Feel free to contact The Hearing Place with any questions regarding these new changes and how they affect you!
