Shawna Beasley, Au.D., ABA-C
Audiologist
Dr. Beasley brings years’ worth of patient care and diagnostic audiological experience to The Hearing Place. She received her undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, her Doctorate of Audiology from University of Utah, and is certified by the American Board of Audiology. After completing her doctorate, Dr. Beasley worked at a neurotology clinic for three years before transitioning into the private practice setting. She specializes in audiological testing, fitting and programming hearing aids of all major manufacturers, and cochlear implant candidacy and programming.
Dr. Beasley was drawn to audiology through her own personal experience with hearing loss. At a young age, she was diagnosed with progressive hearing loss and wore hearing aids for many years until it was determined that she could experience greater benefit from cochlear implants. She underwent her first cochlear implant surgery in 2007 while a senior in high school. It was so successful that she underwent a second surgery 6 years later to implant the other ear. Her experience with hearing loss and with the audiologist who had helped her for so many years encouraged her to pursue a career in audiology.
Born and raised outside of Sterling, Colorado, Dr. Beasley is passionate about helping Coloradoans achieve the best quality of life with better hearing. Being an individual with significant hearing loss herself, she can relate with patients on a personal level on their struggles and help overcome any obstacles they may have.
Outside of work, Dr. Beasley and her husband love spending time with their toddler and three fur babies. They often like to travel to different states, explore nature, and spend time with friends and family.
What is your favorite part about working with your patients?
I really appreciate the long-term relationships that develop with my patients. Helping patients have better hearing better connects them with their loved ones, so I also get to know spouses and children too. When my patients and their families share their successes it gives me so much joy. I also have a special place in my heart for my cochlear implant patients because I have seen what a positive life changing experience cochlear implants can be. I just love being a part of that change.
What is your favorite sound that you always want to be able to hear?
I have really fond memories of family vacations at the beach – so hearing the ocean waves crash on the shore and the seagulls calling. Out here in Colorado we’ve got so many wonderful sounds of nature like the babbling of a mountain stream along a hiking trail.
What is your favorite activity to do outside of work?
When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I like to unwind at a local craft brewery. My daughter is a dancer, so I always love watching her perform on stage and cheering her and her teammates on at competitions. During the summer our new favorite family activity is to get out on a lake, paddleboarding for them and kayaking for me.
